I think it’s a spelling mistake. I think it should be ‘birthday gathering’, which was organised by Johnson’s wife, which Sunak said he didn’t know about when he was escorted into the room as he was expecting a private meeting with Johnson. Johnson was ‘surprised’ a few minutes later.
