It'd be entirely optional—their level could still display, since that can be useful information, but it'd be nice to have more control over what shows…

Perhaps an overall reset of the score system should have been implemented before doing this. Transitional phasing of scores will change. Also the other thing is, how competitive is Mario Kart really? Or just hide the score altogether and have it as an invisible figure.
Personally, in games I enjoy the ability of not being told where everything is and learning to work everything out by myself. I think it's an important skill in gaming that has been lost to the easy era.
