We did exactly this when buying our home five years ago. The owners picked us because we met their price, but I think it also gave them comfort to know more about the people who would be moving into their home. They shared our letter with the neighbors, which was really nice because it gave us an intro to the

I mean, if it’s a home you live in, most people have a pretty significant emotional attachment to it. It’s not an old lawnmower. However misguided (and in some cases prejudicial) it can be, it’s not surprising that someone might have strong feelings about who takes over the home.

I hate the man who bought my third house. He ripped out fig trees, crepe myrtles, a grape arbor and tons of rare lilies. For grass. My old neighbors don’t like him much either. They say he destroyed the view. ;)

We wrote a letter. I wasn’t sure if we should but honestly, the market was so insane in January 2021 when we were looking. The sellers really responded positively to it... but of course, it still came down to money too. I don’t know how many bids there were total on the house but we did win. It felt good.

Don’t write a letter to sellers... as that might persuade them to accept something other than just the most cash. Exactly who is this expert advice given by?  It is provided by the group that wants to charge a 6% fee to the seller, be that property worth 50K or 2 Million. Do you see any conflict of interest here?!

If a seller is looking to choose a specific type of buyer for their home, a letter isnt “manipulative”. If its a flipper, they wont give a shit in the first place and send your letter into the trash.

I wouldn’t do it, but I’m not going to shit on those who do. This just seems to be finding something else to be pissed about.

One of my best friends wrote a letter to the seller of the house he really wanted. It was an older couple selling, and they’d gotten tons of offers way above asking price and he just couldn’t afford to go much higher than a few thousand above asking so he couldn’t beat those bids. The couple ended up choosing his

Yeah, I think in the current market of investment buyers swooping in and buying up all the inventory, this is a bad take.

Yes, damn people who show a shred of humanity in the midst of an oppressive market and take the time to construct a thoughtful note to the homeowner. Manipulative? Sure, they’re meant to persuade (otherwise why write them). But tacky? I feel sorry for you. Do you roll your eyes when someone sends you a birthday card,

Oh, for FUCK’S SAKE.

Not even ashamed to say that my wife and I wrote a letter 6 years ago when buying our home. I’m a little ashamed to say that we thought of it after watching a home buying show on HGTV, but we definitely did it. We love the home. We knew the older couple selling it had loved the home and raised their family in it. And

“Don’t write a letter, just pay more money,” recommends the industry group whose members are paid a percentage of every sale.

I’m a 6' woman with a 5'3" husband, and you aren’t wrong. I think about it like Moneyball; fact is, my dude would be way out of my league if he was 6'. But he's not, so...I win?

Well no...he’s upset about the double standard. He isn’t saying women shouldn’t be able to have their opinions on height, he’s just saying when he has his opinions on weight he shouldn’t get attacked. It should be the same standard.

at 5'8" and frequently, “too short”...  I’m going to say this article is missing the mark.

It’s somewhat interesting that this writeup didn’t feature any input from short men, when they seem to be the group who are most contrary to beauty norms, as well as subject to ethnic stereotyping for some backgrounds. While this varies in context (both in time and sector), height is generally treated as desirable and

On the other hand:

But that is the point you just made. You’re saying it’s bad that a white person is killing a bunch of non-whites in an action movie set in Japan. It then follows that a white person killing only white people is ok, though, because you aren’t criticizing the killing just who is being killed. Really sounds like you

So your argument is that if the protagonist is white, no film can take place in another country not populated by primarily other white people?
