The name and the fact that she keeps it in her car...I want to meet her. And I feel like I probably would get to if I ever happened across the car. Much to my embarrassment, I once called 911 to rescue a blow-up doll that I mistook for a battered woman trapped in a sedan in a mall parking lot. (She was ok)

One step. BUT THIS SHIT PISSES ME OFF. As a professional dancer myself, NO ONE WANTS TO PAY YOU. It’s so frustrating especially bc sports players make millions. Cheerleading and dance are a SPORT and actually have just as many injuries (if not more) than football. UGHHHHHHH-who has an ativan?

Yeah, I’ve heard some people say it’s “not even a real job” and they should be “grateful for what they get,” yet they have no problem with the millions of dollars paid to each player of football, baseball, or basketball.

Experience AND a chance to build their cheer leading portfolio, which they can use to show off their work when they finally enter the high paid world of professional cheer leading. Oh wait.

Any likelihood of them getting compensated more fairly going forward?

I also loved the argument that these women shouldn’t complain and should actually be grateful because they get to hang around rich guys who may bestow trinkets upon them, or — the ultimate cheerleader ambition — marry them (because why else would anyone be a cheerleader, right?).

Nono, you’re mistaken; it’s not that they should be paid in experience. It’s that they are supposed to be grateful to be in the presence of wealthy professional athletes who might deign to let them be glorified prostitutes if they’re especially good at cheerleading.

Since you posted this comment, it’s actually been slashed to $6.32 and a free basket of breadsticks with purchase of an entree.

Uh oh, here come the assholes who think cheerleaders should only be paid in experience or some such right-wing twaddle.

Interesting. Last year California enacted a law that lets workers accrue up to three days of paid sick leave for year once they’ve been on a job for 90 days. Our businesses seem to be doing just fine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That’s awesome. I bought into it at my job after my first pregnancy (for which I did have unpaid leave), and my husband at his. It was great both when my husband got ill and when I had a second pregnancy.

I don’t think this insurance necessarily needs to be *free*, but it should be available without breaking the bank.

That’s a really good idea - although small businesses will scream. Remember, FMLA is unpaid, but businesses with fewer than 50 employees don’t have to provide it to their employees. The ADA doesn’t apply to businesses with fewer than 15 employees. I would expect a system like this to have a similar carveout, meaning

I actually like this idea a lot better than maternity-explicit policies. I work in higher ed, and most grad students have to drop out and re-enroll if they have or adopt a baby, become seriously ill or injured, have to care for a new non-child dependent, need to go to rehab, etc. And we’ll probably get more done if we

Wouldn’t the easiest solution be to offer some sort of reasonably priced federally subsidized disability policy that small/medium business owners would pay into in connection with better FMLA job protections? No one should have to lose their job or all their entire income because they need to be off work for a while

I literally worship the Coen Brothers, but I do have to admit they have been crappy with diversity in many of their movies. I have to give them some credit because they usually capture the stupidity, massive ego, and greed of The White Male™ just brilliantly, but I wish they would include more diverse actors. I think

I understand this as well. I remember an article on here about “Hail Ceasar” being all white (the upcoming Clooney pic) and it had to be because of that time in Hollywood. OK, fine. I still want to see it because I think it looks funny. But if that is going to be your argument, tell more stories that aren’t The Mad

this is a case of what i like to call the “Mad Men Excuse.” in short, you base a film or tv show around a perspective, group, and/or industry during a period in time in which said perspective, group and/or industry is predominately white and then give that setting as the reason your film or tv show must be

Diversity doesn’t have to be enforced in a non-racist and inclusive society. Did you know that Hispanics account for nearly 30 percent of movie ticket sales despite being only 17 percent of the population? Did you know that even Hispanic roles are sometimes written to be non-Hispanic roles and when there are Hispanic

i hate that quote. maybe "the beauty of the male body" just hasn't been shoved down all our throats as much. the greeks were pretty into it, but these days objectifiying it is so confusing and unfamiliar that even straight girls feel safer looking at other women. none of this means that the female body is inherently

Sometimes I look at staged beefcake shots and think they look preposterously contrived and silly - like "Dude, why are you just wearing a Royal Guard hat? Now I don't wanna fap, I want the storyline..."- but then I realize that I've seen similarly themed cheesecake photos all of my life and didn't bat an eyelid at it
