But this isn’t a surrogate. She was trying to carry a child, possibly with no bio-link to her, and they gave her this one. Surrogates with no bio-link have gone on birth certificates and changed their mind. So it isn’t cut and dry. I don’t think there is enough case law to guess, and state law would play a HUGE part.

I don’t think there is really precedent or law as to whose it is in this case. Surrogates with no bio-link to the child have won cases to be the mother.

We do allow people to deny others the use of their bodies. We don’t force parents to donate organs or blood to save their dying child. And seperation of conjoined twins, even at the certain death of one of them, is not an unheard of thing.

Utah I know has that... a friend adopted her husband’s nephew after his brother was deported and the mother had her parental rights removed and even though they had had him most of the time before that (mom would drop him off and not reappear for weeks or months ) they had to go through all that.

Also, kids. Men tend to have the time and only have the kids every other weekend. Women tend to only have a break every other weekend. That makes dating much harder for women, on top of normal ways it is harder anyway.

I think the underlying problem is that it is hard for women to be taken seriously as real adult people anyway, and by doing something so traditionally female as raising a child that doubles down on the problem. Which is a big part of why I suspect many young women are leaning towards childlessness.
