Daily reminder that nobody is at the wheel:

Some have speculated that the ship may have been hacked, but there’s no evidence to support that.

I was about to make a joke about going back to Engadget, but it never recovered after they traded hands. Filler content. Ars Technica is still doing good work, though. Plus, the authors are engaged.

For the folks who see cars the other way:

Right? I’d still rather stab myself in a kneecap rather than go for a ride in a Kei truck with a jet engine bolted to it, but those tiny trucks are little workhorses.

The White House and Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigig released statements offering aid and letting Americans know the incident is being carefully monitor.

Sounds like it was being captained by a port pilot, so I don’t think it was an issue of navigation familiarity. Details are popping up here and there but a sudden loss of ship power / steer is a strong possibility.

It’s the Tribeca’s fault.

Fucking lol

It is, that photo is from a single listing made by a JDM vehicle importer. They had it put down as a low speed vehicle, but it seemed like a pretty heavy wink wink, nudge nudge situation. It was still RHD and badged as a Hustler, stock 660cc engine, etc.

Absolutely correct.

Marques just pointed to the nail. Fisker used their own hammer.

It’s pretty clear that there are no actual humans involved in the process of cranking these things out. I opened one out of boredom, saw the Evernote screwup and tried to help flag the issue a few times in followup posts, but they’re never going to see these comments or fix the mistake.

Indeedily.

I love the idea (and those wheels!), but it should have been an extended cab.

Unfortunate. Kotaku has effectively been defunct since Mike Fahey passed away, though. Fuck Jim Spanfeller.

I know that no humans are paying attention to this, but you guys still haven’t noticed that Spotify won its bracket, not Evernote.

The above is from the 2024 and 2025 press kit specs, in case anyone else was curious.
