One of the features I genuinely often miss from my old 2nd-gen 4Runner is the tailgate. I don’t miss having to roll the rear glass down to open it as much, though, that I’ll admit. The split gate in the style of that Rover or the 100 series LC is pretty much my ideal, er... rear entry option.

They can be on a moving element (such as a tailgate) as long as they’re also on a non-moving element (such as the pillar next to the tailgate). Same as tail lights.
