Yes, unfortunately. They’ll tell prospective advertisers “look how many hits a day our articles get, you should pay to advertise on our site”. They’re selling the views as well as the clicks.

It’s really morbid, but I’m getting a kick out of how this decaying husk of a website keeps overlaying bad news with that “Subscribe to our Newsletter!” text because nobody can be fucked to close a p tag or whatever.

So... what are some good alternative sites? I’ve been reading AV Club since it was in paper format, but with the constant changes, Disqus/Kinja nightmares, sparser coverage, and now this... may officially be time to move on.

Yeah, I think this is the end of me and the AVClub. The people working here have obviously had to work hard to make an entertaining site despite the doofuses that own that place. But you can only fight the headwinds of poor management for so long.

I can only assume comments on AVClub will be going the way of comments on Deadspin.
