You’re assuming that Elio wasn’t just vapor ware and a scam for almost all of its existence.  Mr. Elio has fared very well through all of this.

Would anyone here buy a 1994 desktop PC or cellphone for their teen because it was a reliable or a good value? Buying a 1994 Buick is a much, MUCH worse idea. We’ve come a long way technology-wise in the last 27 years, but at least an old PC or cellphone isn't likely to kill your children...

It would be one of the worst feelings in the world if my kid wrecked his car and walked away because he had an airbag, but his unairbagged passenger  wasn't so lucky.  Better than the reverse, if I had to make that choice, but an even better choice would be a safe modern car with dual airbags.

But wouldn’t you want your daughter to survive if she wrecked got into an accident? The odds of being killed or crippled in this thing are several years times higher than in anything made in the past ten years.

Fine for a teen who won't be getting into any accidents. These cars are death traps.
