I think it is fur simulation, and based on the lectures I’ve heard they are almost definitely created procedurally. I’m only tangentially knowledgeable so I can’t sound arrogantly confident, but I’m pretty sure it’s more about RENDERING each hair than ANIMATING each hair.

I’m going to approach this subject from 5 feet away, but being a protagonist on an important plotline didn’t stop SPOILERS Rob, Jon Snow, Catyln, Drogo, the Hound, or Oberyn from being cut down in their prime. Not to mention Ned Fucking Stark. Plenty of characters are at their zenith with a promise of a bright future…

I always think of “Pixar” as showing us a facet of our own world we have always overlooked. A Toy’s perspective, a bug’s perspective, a fish’s perspective, an emotion’s perspective etc. A video game character’s perspective fits right in.
