Right? They were RAISED on that show. They weren’t even old enough to give any consent/interest (as far as a small child can really consent to working). They churned out their movies and shows and appearances in a huge way. I in no way blame them for not wanting to come back for what would only be nostalgic benefit.

For these people to even expect them to return seems kinda gross to me. They were really begging these two to come back to a job they were probably forced into doing as toddlers out of some kind of obligation?

They seem to have washed their hands of show business altogether. I don’t know why they get snark for living their lives how they want.

Every time I see a pic of Mary Kate, I wonder if she specifically asked her plastic surgeon to make her look more age appropriate for her older paramours. That is not the face of a 31 year old.

“Rick sucks. Beth sucks. Everything sucks—at least if you’re smart.”

Tbh, kinda felt like a big misfire to me. Tossing the entire main cast into the apathy boat, then leaning into the “misery through intelligence” bullshit they’ve been lampshading in a way that certain fans will inevitably take at face value... like a “worst of” episode compilation.

Take Walter White for example, it’s pretty clear form the First Season of Breaking Bad that he could have walked away from making meth at any time. He was even offered a well-paying job by a former friend. But, rather then swallowing his pride and doing what’s best for his family he continues down the path of

Part of the genius of Mad Men was that it initially depicted Don’s womanizing as something glamorous and enviable, then over time began to depict that behavior as isolating and pathetic. You initially see Don as the ultimate capitalistic/patriarchal power fantasy, but over time come to see him as a desperate, hollow

The “Mad Max” and “Pickle Rick” eps were misfires—high levels of utter viciousness not balanced by the usual gross-but-blisteringly-witty dialog. So no, they’re not firing on all cylinders this season. But at least they’re no longer augering into the ground like you’d think was happening thanks to those two turkey eps.

I’m reminded of a video Lindsay Ellis made (can’t post a link without it being embedded... stupid new system) that discussed The Producers and its effect on people’s view of Nazis. She argues that white supremacists and modern Nazis like films like American History X because their anti-hero portrays their values and

He’s the hilarious thing: These dipshits are Citadel Mortys, or worse, daycare Jerrys. They’re detached from what the real world actually is that they’ve created their own social structure that is so flawed and deeply troubling that they can’t even see that it’s wrong. It’ll take someone fucking ramming that Citadel

AMEN. It’s also the reason these neckbeards like to “quiz” women on nerdy shit in hopes of tripping them up on some obscure fact about Jerry or whatever. They get to feel superior and comfort themselves with the idea that the girl wasn’t a REAL fan anyway.

It’s like all of these supposed Star Trek fans who are complaining about how SJWs caused there to be only one white man on the main cast of Discovery.

Sure. You can do whatever the hell you want with art on your end. I certainly have relationships with lots of works that are very different from what their creators intended. What you don’t get to do is browbeat artists into making the kind of art you want. You get to decide if you want it when it’s done. You don’t

I think this is based on a pretty crabbed view of art, though. It’s not a purely one-way transaction. Art has meaning because of the interaction between the creator’s intent and the consumer’s reception of that intent. By responding in different ways, consumers change the meaning of the text, and adapt it to enrich

Seriously as a comic book fan it can be so infuriating at times the things people will not just give into suspension of disbelief with. Robots time travel and complete disregard for continuity fine, make spider man black screaming and forming a lynch mob.

The best explanation I heard was this. So many of these guys are the basement dwelling stereotypes you read about, the ones who can’t get a date. They’ve convinced themselves that it’s because they like comics and SF and fantasy and nerdy things that girls don’t get. Now, with more and more women becoming fans and

Rick and Morty does that interesting thing that dime novels and gangster movies used to do - it condemns its mostly reprehensible central character all the time, but also allows viewers to revel in and tacitly celebrate their transgressive, anti-social qualities. (Lots of pop culture does it, then and now). But

I don’t...get this at all. Like, these guys are upset simply because there are women writing for the show? That’s it?

Jeez, white guys are fragile little snowflakes, huh?

It infuriates me. I’m involved with comic book fandoms more so than anything else, and good god. Like how can you claim to like characters that fight to protect people and preserve life and still be such a shitty person? How can you claim to love the X-Men while not realizing that YOU WOULD BE A VILLAIN IN THOSE
