Real race sim drivers know that pretty car models are the least important thing. Track models, surface texture simulation, suspension physics, tire physics, etc are all far more important. Unless this is all going to be televised or something. Which it isn't.

The prototypes have been design progressions/versions. P4 seems to be a relatively finalized, production ready design. P3 lacked the faired front wheels and the body-unified headlights (needed for the aero to get to 84mpg).
I'm in the same boat you are. Hope is high, but diminishing. Plans are in place for a purchase if they deliver.

A quickly spinning crankshaft and flywheel can store a lot of momentum for a quick launch, too. I'm sure that is part of it.
