Yeah I actually kinda agree with Joel and I’m an antisocial chronic head-in-phone person myself. I feel like everyone in the comments section is reading into the original letter too much and overreacting with the “oh you expect me to entertain you?” shit.

Newspapers are/were the worst format, for lack of a better term. I used to love reading it as a kid, but even then, I basically had to spread out on the kitchen table and it’d be mutilated and out of order by the time I was done.

Yeah, I don’t personally really go to bar bars just to drink and stare at my phone, those are def social environments.

Lol, you think people don’t “ask a question” as an opener and try to steer a conversation somewhere else? There are plenty of reasons people approach strangers to “ask a question” and only a few of them are because they actually *need* help with something.

Sucks for ‘headphones’, but idk if “always acknowledge strangers who bother you in public because it might actually be important one time” is a great takeaway, if that’s what you’re implying. I’m sure ‘headphones’ had reasons to be steeled against people bothering them on the train.

Yeah maybe it’s how I was raised but I’ve *never* been in the habit of drinking bottled water. Even before reusable bottles became trendy, I just drank water out of whatever bottle I had when I was out or out of a glass.

I mean, I’ve drank a whole growler by myself in a few hours and it’s still flat by the end.

I wish my bit local dairy still did paper quarts. A few years back ours moved the quarts into plastic bottles with a full-color label and doubled the price to where it’s now costs about the same as the half-gallon. I still get the quart because I only use milk for cooking and don’t want to be wasteful, but I resent

And trucks aren’t $$$? That’s what gets me about trucks, they’re fucking expensive. I’d might consider a new Ranger or something if it was as cheap as my late-model econobox, but it’s still almost twice as much as my car was new.

Lol, is trump the best example? If trump did something like that, we’d definitely be talking about it but 40% of the country would think it was fine and she was asking for it.

I work in a company that’s 24/7 and covers at least 4 timezones and we use fucking 12 hour CST/CDT time for everything. Miscommunication over when something is supposed to start happens all the time. Granted, I’m sure trying to switch to GMT would cause even more fuckups.

Yeah, that was what I was gonna say. 12:45 AM is 00:45. AM doesn’t start at 1 because the day doesn’t doesn’t start at 01, it starts at 00. Could we come up with a better term for midnight in a 12-hour clock that makes more sense? Maybe.

I do the shirt thing too. I’ve been told it’s even weirder than a sock but it’s just habit at this point. *NOT* recommended for white undershirts though.

A warehouse paying what’s probably still less than a living wage isn’t actually anything to brag about.

I live in Iowa and I don’t even like the attention. The dumb thing is the denizens of the state fair are actually weirder and *less* droll than the rest of us.

> The politics falls in your lap i.e. you weren’t seeking it out but now that you know that Ross is a big Republican donor, you can’t unknow it - you can either choose to ignore it or take action

Taking pride in something like that feels very Ohio, but the sculpture is really cool.

I have a Gerber Shard multi-tool now, slightly more mature and theoretically more useful than my old “Pop a Cap” keychain bottle opener. But I still mostly use it to open bottles.

So that’s what a church key is? A lot of generic bottle openers I’ve seen still have it on one side and I was vaguely aware that it was for opening cans, but I did’t know that’s what it was commonly called. My dad always used it for opening big cans of tomato juice when he was making gringo micheladas.

Probably stating the obvious, but I’m not sure what advantage this would have over just using a budget. I’ve stayed out of credit card debt by having YNAB bug me to move money around anytime I overspend. If this card lets you turn off the linking feature at will, it doesn’t seem to require any less (or more) self
