Most definitely.
Most definitely.
The engine in the STI is old. It's really old. But the 2.5 liter EJ boxer four isn't a slouch. It has more meat than the WRX lower in the rev range and really comes alive around 3,000 RPM. It's fast, but the way it's geared requires you to be shifting a lot.
Not only are they fast when even slightly breathed on, they make a good noise when tuned, not making diesel standards here. The car sounds absolutely mad. Also, if you'd check it out on YouTube, you'll see that the Audi 3.0TDi engine sounds brilliant too, the best sounding diesels in existence and one of the best…
What's sad is that the M135i has the same engine of a Z4 and makes more power. The Z4 is supposed to be their fast roadster and bows at the feet of a fast hatchback, which necessarily isn't bad.
And the 640d has the same motor from a 530d, but with an additional turbo, i.e., the engine from a 535d
Even though I liked the E60 5er design, I was in a very, very small minority. Probably a minority of one. The haters, yes, haters, said that it had Dame Edna's glasses, looked surprised, and was far too overstyled. I can understand that, I just don't agree.
That's what he said.
This is what happens when engineering porn masters from Toyota are let loose.
