The thing with cameras is you need somebody to watch the footage to figure out who/what/where. Most security cameras that record, will record over existing footage after a week or a month. Few if any would have footage from 10 months back.

Read “Understanding Exposure” by Bryan Peterson. It is an excellent intro to Photography book that teaches the triangle and gives many examples on how he got the shots in the book. One of the best intro books I’ve seen.
