Mixed traffic - plus stop n go - over 50 miles - at 4 pm I routinely get in high 40s.
The no of miles I drive each day ~ 100. The TDi pays off itself at an alarmingly fast rate.
Also, case in point:
I think he Jetta is (almost) as good as Passat. They both (alarmingly) exceed the EPA estimates. If I can get 55 plus on a 43 rated Passat, then you can easily get 50 plus on a 42 rated Jetta. If not more.
As much as I would like to help you, I would say a few things which would warn you regards heading my advice.

my friend, this guy "shopping" for a GM product, also owns an AMG product, 2 other MB products and a BMW product. MB is the pinnacle of depreciation. AMG is the icing on the cake.
