This is great to hear. You know, it’s funny. For the last decade, I wrote off the Z line as boring, cheap, common, and outdated. But when I heard the 370 was finally getting put out to pasture, I came to realize that by virtue of being old and unchanged, the Z line had become something special and increasingly rare: a

On a dollar-per-pound or cubic foot basis, it’s hard to beat a used domestic minivan.

It takes about 5 minutes to fill my gas tank to bring it to full. Meanwhile your hypothetical is proposing an infrastructure that doesn’t exist yet and might not for a couple years at best (and in some parts of the US, might never), and the availability of these charging hotels would dictate your trip destinations far

But only 500 miles is hardly driving all day.

I can get 400-500 miles out of a full tank of gas in my car depending on how hard I drive (and it’s an ancient POS that gets mid 20s mpg on the interstate), so that would really be more like matching the current status quo than an improvement over it. Not to knock EVs, I’m seriously debating a mach-E and lightning as

Used car dealers are such a pain in the ass that a lot of people are willing to lose a lot of money simply for the convenience of not having to deal with one.

Any running car at that price nowadays is a Nice Price. The fact that this one is in good condition makes it a lock.

Agreed - one reason I would want a newer corolla. That run of 2AZ-FE is a oil drinker and headbolt issue (although most should have been identified, repaired, or scrapped by now). Toyota started covering a lot of them with Warranty Enhancement (free extended warranty). Still, some folks panic if they have to add a qt

traction is about as sparse as the hair on top of the heads of the typical Solstice buyer”

if you go for an older 90's car with a tape deck... just get a bluetooth reciever to plug in to the 12v... then aux out to cassette adapter... boom! you have bluetooth in your car for less than $20.

Aside from that being the ugliest convertible ever made, students need practical cars like hatchbacks. They move around a lot, they have no money, and probably want to bring their friends.

it would be worth adding the pontiac vibe, as it’s a matrix without the brand recognition... may be a little cheaper.

My friend got a Matrix for his first car back when we were in high school, that would have been around 2010 or 2011. It already had over 100k on it back then. He’s still driving it today. Not many folks my age (29) are still driving the car they had in high school. I have my old Beetle, but I don’t necessarily count

Cheap and reliable? Yeah, let’s see what the local CL ads have....

Fiat is reliable now? I guess I missed the memo.

College student here.

No the S was manual 6spd only. I had a base model 5spd and loved that car until I grenaded the motor with 25psi and not enough fuel.

I’ve recommended Vibes to two friends on a budget, and they’ve both been great. Toyota Reliability at used GM prices. (at least before the pandemic, not sure how they are doing now)

I owned two pontiac vibes and they were the cheapest most reliable cars to own. The 2003 manual was the most fun but later got a 2009 auto because of a broken foot. The Matrix XRS and Vibe GT are both fun with their 6-speed manual and high rev engine. very reliable cars and that first gen handles well especially with

Toyota Matrix / Corolla or a Fit.
