a CPO X5 that will be a rolling dumpster fire outside of warranty (who are we kidding, you’ll be taking time out of your day to take advantage of the CPO warranty as well) and is worthless offroad? Cool.

It’s literally the only directly comparable vehicle available new if OP is serious about needing true offroad capability AND reliability

It’s hard to fault him for looking for something for 40k that *feels* worth 40k.”

here’s the thing though, that 4Runner will keep its value near that 40k for an obscene amount of time, and it will keep driving basically like new for 20+ years.  What else on the market today can do that in an SUV form factor that’s

LMAO

My top issues with EVs:
1) lack of infrastructure outside of metro areas, even in large metro areas current stations see huge backups during the holidays etc
2) over-reliance on software and constant “connectedness.” Car gets bricked by an over-the air-update, Tesla can turn features on/off at will. You never truly

New Hampshire to Pittsburgh PA and back.”

That’s cute man

but that is more to do with due to political opinions, ignorance, and attack ads than it is price.”

Or maybe we just like being able to drive when/where/however far we want

I was gonna say, yes Tesla and some of the EVs might be the most blatant examples of this very sketchy tech/screen reliant controls but gas cars are getting to be every bit as bad.  Good luck new car buyers, I’m gonna stick with my 15 year old 300k mile Suburban.

Came here for this correction in the comments, leaving satisfied.

Are you actually following the wiring diagram and troubleshooting with some logical flow in mind?  Or just throwing parts at it?

In normal times this would be overpriced but $7K”

No, even in “normal” times that would be a good price, a great one in fact.

Reading into it a bit more, looks like the XT600's “YDIS” twin carb has a very interesting combination of BOTH a “direct control” throttle-slide carb side by side with a vacuum controlled (CV) carb. The idea is to get the best of both worlds of the immediate response and hard hit of direct control with the fuel

The throttle return should be simple enough(?) if it’s a CV carb it’s just a butterfly you’re opening like a throttle plate on a car, spring loaded, pulled by a cable. Lubing said cable might help alleviate your problem, or it could even be something at the throttle/grip itself.

For your tires: you can easily check the

The GS500 is like the final successor of those air cooled OGs (parallel twin GS400 came out in 1977 alongside the 4cyl GS750 and GS550). If I lived somewhere with more twisty roads I would absolutely have a “naked” GS500E in the stable. I think they are great fun in a approachable-legal speed sort of way.

I was gonna say, we need to get a better idea of what OP has in mind for “offroad” riding as well as how much paved road riding he has in mind (how far, is the street riding just a necessity to GET to the dirt, or a large part of the enjoyment itself with some decent mileage involved). There’s a big sliding scale from

Yeah but I like the XS650s more than the Hondas

Yeah I guess the way to think of it is a 4 valve big single with a pair of carbs is like having a 2 valve parallel twin with a pair of carbs: in both cases each carb feeds one intake valve. A way to get a straight path of as much air as possible into the engine.

As far as fiddling with a a pair of carbs, my world has

The ancient 4spd also has a chance of lasting 100k miles in hilly areas

This was the exact thinking that lead me to buying a three year old 34k mile Town&Country Touring L (loaded up with most of the good stuff like heated “leather” and steering wheel, DVD, power everything, stow&go, etc) for $18k a few years ago with our baby on the way. At 75k miles now, we’ve been very pleased with it.

FYI - They no longer sell the Journey so they aren’t “new” anywhere.”

The 111 cars in question here were sold as new cars with new car warranties, even if they were stale lot fodder.
