That’s what the Xterra has been since its inception

Throw coil springs in the back of the new one.  Loved everything about the 2nd gen X except that cheaped out element.

The Toyota was no better on either of those two points lmao

You obviously don’t live in the salt belt/work on cars lol. Subframes still can and do rot out on ~10 year old cars.  Frames on trucks go too as well (*cough* Toyota) but they’re generally made of thicker metal and easier to keep rust-proofed

The hate is that it’s a slow-selling turd with a transmission with the longevity of a mayfly.

Toyota sells twice as many highlanders as Nissan does Pathfinders, AND manages to sell 50% more 4Runners than Pathfinders.  Toyota played it right by keeping the 4Runner a “real” BOF SUV and letting the Highlander do the

I for one welcome the return of durable midsize SUVs

I think the 17+ Patrol based Armadas are very underrated trucks, awesome build quality and drivetrain. I personally really dig the base SV on its meaty tires and totally 80s-Japan velour+piping interior

What all was done to the 3.3L to boost it to those power/torque levels?  Is that dyno-confirmed?  Just curious.  I’ve always thought of the 3.3/3.8 as a solid workhorse, but never considered what sort of performance envelope they might have (more cam?)

My biggest hangup as well.  I think the 3 is handsomely styled outside, love the big greenhouse, it almost reminds me of older Hondas.  But if we could only get a simple but functional interior like one of those old Hondas instead of “swedish minimalism+iPad”

Despite the issues, FB marketplace is still hands down the place to be these days. Although I will say I bought my suburban off craigslist when I decided to check in there on a whim (‘06, high mile but totally rust free single owner Colorado truck)

Yep the pricing forces you to fit inside of a bracket based off KBB values, its completely ridiculous.

I can totally imagine how this happened: some completely non-car-guy executives thought this would be a “great way” to “protect users” from people unfairly gouging car prices and swindling people.  Instead it has been

Facebook wont let me post with real price: $6000"

This has been the scrouge of FB marketplace car ads since they implemented this absolutely retarded “feature.”

Why are you so interested in other peoples dicks

The guy above is making an idiotic point, but since when do Camrys clock in at 4500lb lmao

If there were more efficient cars in Toyotas lineup”

Uhhh... there are (a bunch)?

“Most of the images” being what? Literal crack pipes and Dave Chapelle as Tyrone Biggums? super “Racist” for sure

These are actually (relatively) porky little buggers. Knocking on the door of 2750-2900lb iirc.  About the same as a mid-90s Accord.

Because they’re one of the better driving, highest bang-for-the-buck sedans out there (IMO). They go down the road much better than anything transverse/FWD/AWD, just a totally different feel.

Precisely. Sold the 4Runner with 150k for just under $8k (thanks Toyota Tax), bought the Chevy for $3100 as a bit of a project truck and rough and ready weekend hauler and it’s cleaned up so nice that it’s my go-to daily driver now.

I’d say you’re right. I reckon the readership of jalopnik has quite a bit of overrepresentation with college educated, money-savvy folks. I find myself in the facebook local junk car and $1500-and-under-cars groups or around the bad parts of town and see what I think is generally a better representation of the
