You actually gave me a really good idea. If I twist the knob off and put it back on cross-threaded, it makes the collar extremely hard, if not impossible to pull up. I know cause it happened after I got it back from the dealer once. The inside of the knob is just soft plastic. (Yes, the dealer fucked with my knob!)

I'm also a mechanical engineer and I couldn't figure it out. =(

You have to pull up on the collar beneath the knob, otherwise it doesn't go anywhere. No one I've met so far, outside of the guys at the dealership, could figure this out.

I love my car, but can anyone figure out how to shift this? Cause no one can, which is ok I guess, since no one else usually drives my car but the tire guys have no idea how to get it out of the service bay.
