They look off-brand because they don't waste money on marketing.

Does this mean Virgin will have to make a revised version of their safety video?
Understanding Exposure is a pretty solid book for teaching you not just about the "exposure triangle," but certain tricks like metering off of the sky when your camera's exposure metering won't work properly (e.g., trying to properly meter pure, white snow).
I haven't used LightTrac, but a similar product that's also at the $5 price is The Photographer's Ephemeris. Perhaps somebody who's used both could weigh in?
Why not during?
I haven't done it myself yet, but one common tip I hear about this is to get something where the shoulders fit. Everything else can be tailored without too much trouble, but if the shoulders are too wide or too narrow, it's hard to impossible to fix with tailoring.
Can't help you avoid looking like a valuable target or how you feel about the weight of the camera, but one thing I did that made me feel a lot less touristy was to switch to an over-the-shoulder strap. It's a bit vain, I know, but for some reason I feel like it makes you look like you know what you're doing, not to…
Keurigs use a preset amount of water per cup—unless you have one of the higher end models, in which case you can choose from a list of different preset amounts. You're trading control and quality (among other things) for the convenience of K-cups.
Take a couple shirts and fold them and place them in a stack, then press down on it with your hand. Look at how much volume all that air you just displaced was taking up.
In college, the dining hall before and during finals week would basically become a 24/7 study hall. Everybody would be crammed in there with their laptops; a few wise folks would bring power strips so they could plug their laptop in even when the outlets were all taken, and generally they were pretty nice about…
Well, that info is only relevant if you're trying to break into somebody's phone and need to know the most common PINs to try first. You, as an intelligent Lifehacker reader, should easily be able to come up with a less-guessable PIN. :P
That's how I hear it pronounced from Brits, but I've always attributed that to the non-rhotacism of (most) British accents. I assume as an American it would come out sounding like the word "worse," unless I were trying to pretend to be British. :P
Yep, people tend to break it down into syllables like "wor ces ter," but it's really more like "worce ster." In any case, she sounds like she knows what she's talking about when it comes to dim sum.

I learned the t-shirt trick from my mom. To make it more convenient, get in the habit of flipping your shirt inside out as you take it off to throw in the hamper.
Yep, keeping just one lens on you when you head out—especially a prime (i.e., fixed, non-zooming) lens—can potentially make you a better photographer if you stick to it long enough to get a feel for what your lens is "seeing." You can start to frame pictures in your mind before even raising the camera to your eye,…
Anything that engages some automatic function of myself that doesn't require thinking will work. I started noticing in high school that I'm able to read a book for class or crack open a textbook and study much more easily if I happen to be snacking on something. I think that act of moving my hand and my jaw happens to…
I don't have my Moleskines handy for pictures (they're about 350 miles away at the moment), but on both of the ones I've owned, the corners of the oilcloth along the spine have started to crack, and the elastic band has somehow become extremely loose, to the point where it'll barely even stay on anymore. The ruling of…
Moleskine is cheap (the good kind) and widely accessible, so it's not surprising that it took the number one slot. Unfortunately, it's also cheap (the bad kind) and has really thin paper that might not be so kind to wetter pens, particularly fountain pens.
My thoughts exactly.
