A short form series like Starz and/or HBO (12-13 episodes) would have worked better for the show from the beginning. It would have forced the writers into a more concise story telling mode, avoiding most of the problems that doomed the show.

You could tell that Nolan liked JGL in Inception, but Tom Hardy would be a better choice.
