I wouldn't call it getting on her good side, exactly—though I agree this was the idea. I think it was more getting her into a frame of mind where she would be more relaxed. She's going to support and defend them regardless.

I sometimes really love on the show how Elizabeth is the zealot who wants to recruit, but Philip sometimes seems more effective in his ability to sound earnest and caring and reasonable about it. Like when he first explained to Paige why she had to kiss up to Pastor Tim. And now here with him honestly saying this is…
Because Pastor Tim would have reacted by telling on them. That's why they need her to stick with him. Also, they definitely want her at home with them.
Couldn't deal with what?
I'd chalk it up to Stan now seeing how good he had it with Gaad with this new guy and his Munchkins.
I actually kind of hope it's just the wife who's done this without Pastor Tim. After all, there's no reason to think P&E did anything to him—they wouldn't kill him and leave his wife walking around to make the connection. He probably just got himself into trouble or got lost. Then his wife potentially jumped into…
Philip's defection plans are all about retirement. He's not pro-America or anti-Russia/the cause.
I'm pretty sure I would have been terrified of a nuclear war. This was a TV movie. Very different thing.
Henry got taller than Paige during the time jump, after which they started allowing him to stand up straight. Notice all season he's been either sitting or leaning over. It's funny when he and Elizabeth were at the kitchen island, him hiding his height, her hiding her girth.
We've never heard any hint that Philip has parents in Russia—or ever did. His family is a complete mystery.
Or Philip. She couldn't even kill Gregory.
To quote Philip on this issue, "Are you crazy? It's not like that. At all."
Also, remember that Philip has been pushing for a return to Russia all season. It's not his ideal choice, of course. He'd rather stay where he is and obviously the kids are American so that's where he wants to be. But I think people exaggerate this great longing Philip has to be American forever. In some ways I feel…
Why would she think that? She was jumpy as a rabbit about everything, considering her dad moving suddenly a "distraction." Another car is scary when you're learning to drive. Paige has been in the car with her dad plenty of times with cars coming up behind them without her thinking Philip's being tailed.
I think in this case she was just jumpy about any other cars on the road.
Although I don't think she gets it yet. Philip's issue with Martha wasn't just that he'd miss her (honestly it's probably a relief for him to not have to be taking care of her) but that he feels terrible about what he did to her. Elizabeth hasn't admitted that part yet.
I think he already knew she was stressed out, though. He said as much to William. But being that he's used to a huge level of stress he probably thought she'd just adapted to it.
Yes, she would. She's a tough cookie and could certainly adapt to living the way she lived for the first 22 years of her life. As could Philip, who also has some allegiance to his country. It's not even that unusual for someone to live in a different country for decades and then go back home. Their main problem would…
I would guess the story is based in truth if that's true, though. Oleg has connections who could check this stuff.
I think she and Martha suffer from bad 80s fashions for working women.
