Absolutely true.  I know this because of how often I get stuck behind people stopped at green lights and nobody (except me) honks to wake them up.

NP before I even read the article. I learned to drive a manual transmission on a similar VW Rabbit diesel. It only had one speed, all the way to the floor. You just waited until the engine made a certain noise, shifted to the next gear, then pushed the gas pedal all the way down again. It was awesome.
