I should add now that I just tried the new beta driver that came out today. Performance has increased significantly, so much that tesselation can be turned on and level of detail on ultra benchmarks as fast as it did with tesselation off, and level of detail on normal.

I play at 2560x1600 with a single gtx 670. You can do it just fine, although I recommend putting level of detail on normal and turning off tesselation and use regular hair (its better anyways).
