Naturally aspirated or not, OEMs aren’t calibrating their engines for max power. Once emissions and fuel economy aren’t your primary goals, then increased power comes easy. His comments that it hasn’t been possible since the ‘90s is just marketing.

While I agree that expecting 30 horsepower more on a NA engine with a tune only, is a bit optimistic, it doesn’t mean it can’t be done.
Of course the factory builds the best version of it’s software — from *their* point of view. They have to warranty the result, they have to get it emissions certified, and so on. An aftermarket tuner has no such obligations, so of course they can unlock a bit of power. This isn’t controversial.
Dinan? You mean overpriced BMW aftermarket parts? Yeah, sorry, I’ll believe a honest Hennessy before believing those words about tuning.
??? I’m confused. 1990s? Did you mean to reach back that far, Máté?
Horseshit. Steve Dinan neither tunes LSxs or Coyote Fords. Across the board owners and tuners agree that the stock tunes are fat, safe, and optimized for 87 octane.
I wouldn’t be friends with you either. The emission argument is very valid, also reliability and warranty concerns from the manufacturer limit output. Not to mention the fact than a 335 can easily outperform the flagship M3 with minimal modifications. That doesn’t sit well with the marketing department.
Dinan says only custom software built from scratch will work in the future.
All true, and if the first time this had occured I believe Turkey would have done as you suggest. However, this isn’t the 1st time, it’s a pattern of Russia thumbing it’s nose at Turkey and NATO in general and intentionally provoking NATO countries.
I predict that Turkey will announce a No Fly Zone today at NATO to force Russia’s hand and begin to topple Assad. NATO will tacitly approve, proceeding with a very aggresive interpretation of Article 4.
I simply do not get why landing Americans in Syria sounds like fun to anyone. Maybe I will take neocons more seriously when more of their kids enlist.
Excellent analysis - I really think Putin’s long game is continually probing all the possible chinks in NATOs armor, whether it’s undersea in the Baltic or in Turkish airspace. Poked a little too hard this time, and Turkey doesn’t mess around, but he’ll learn a lot from NATOs response today.
Yeah, let’s nuke the Turkey because there are some crazy assholes there. It’s a muslim country, for fucks sake; of course that there will be a good number of retarded fucktards, but that doesn’t mean that the entire country is the same. What about all the protest against Erdogan?
And you are not? While Erdogan’s government is pretty suspicious, most of the Turkish people are normal. (been there and seen it). And after all, it is part of the NATO.
They’re doing a great job of Soviet style propaganda, showing off their Fullbacks and just to thumb their noses yet again at the US, Blackjacks being escorted by F-14A’s. The reality is Russia is doing this on the cheap. Lots of dumb bombs, many being dropped by helicopter. This was yet another test of wills and…
Didn’t respond to 10 warnings over 5 minutes.
I think it’s mostly that this isn’t the first time this has happened. Ever since Russia has started bombing Syria it hasn’t shown much respect for the Turkish air borders, invading them(however briefly) on more then 1 occasion. There’s also the case where a supposedly Russian drone was shot down in Turkish air space.
Nothing discriminate about dumb bombs dropped all over the place. Fortunately, as news reports have made clear, there are NO ISIS in the area, which means Russia has indeed been bombing everyone EXCEPT ISIS. Of course, the ethnic Turks you’ve been randomly slaughtering may have learned a thing or two from ISIS and…
While I fully agree this is not good in any way and have lots issues with how both the Russians and the Turks have conducted themselves, if this was truly an airspace violation by a warplane I’d stop short of calling this “reckless.” It appears warnings were issued and the Fencer crew had sufficient opportunity to…
1. This really was inevitable. Russia running combat operations and making frequent incursions into Turkish airspace was bound to result in a shoot-down eventually.
