Okay, this one will be relevant to me and me only, but the Lake Afton Grand Prix. This was an annual SCCA event near my hometown of Wichita, Kansas. It was contested on public roads around the titular reservoir. I distinctly remember points at which a hay bale was the only thing preventing race cars from going

@I Can be Stig?: It's hard to believe that just fifteen years ago, there was a truly world-class open wheel series in the US, and people watched. Sad that greed and egos destroyed not only the series but the entire genre of racing here.

@tintern: The Mark Donohue quote, "When I can spin the tires at top gear at the end of the longest straight, THEN I'll have enough power!" has always summed up the greatness of Can-Am for me.

@juicysushi: I watch it, and recommend it to all the car guys I know. It's everything we say we want in a racing series... why do the ratings suck?

@Enorym: Near as I can tell, that one's still going.

@Dominic Chan: Ooh, good answer. That's one I'd love to have back, but it'd obviously never happen.

@two2tone: Still underpowered, according to Mark Donohue.

Okay, since this is obviously going to be a Group B / Can Am festival (not that there's anything wrong with that; those are my top two answers,) how about something a little different?

@juicysushi: Y'know, I was very young, but I seem to recall it being awesome back then.

Can Am. Pretty much the closest we've come to a pure, no-boring-rules, go-as-fast-as-you-can racing series in the last half century.

So when do we get an AOTD for this?

Dude, no preps drive E30s anymore. I'd go with the Volkswagen Eos or the Lexus SC430.

@Terrence Breitsameter: And I've always found the performance of US and European cars to be suspiciously... lacking compared to the Skyline Armada on GT4... they won't have fixed that, I'm sure.

"Look! Hot slutty sluts! Hot slutty sluts having sex! Everyone's gonna get laid! Everyone's watching our video! Buy a Fiat!"

Guy's got a root beer fetish. Just sayin'. I think I can smell that interior from here.
