I realize that most people haven’t given a hot shit about Doom in 22 years but there’s been a thriving community “injecting new life to Doom” on a regular basis for about that long. Most of Brutal Doom is a collection of assets stolen from other modders.

That last image is fake, by the way.

I just installed a 970 like 4 days ago.

so does he still make dumb rape jokes or

Then you are wrong on multiple fronts, sir. John Carmack isn’t even mentioned in the article and he’s not in the video, and he’s been behind innovations in graphics technology well beyond the 90s, being a major contributor to how games handle real-time shadows as well as megatexture.

Oh, gee, that’s just too bad.

I’ve never been able to fathom why. The balance in that game is all out of whack.

Awesome job missing my point.

I mean Diablo 2, but Diablo 3 is pretty shit too.

Diablo 2 is pretty awful, especially for solo play.

when i was about 15, it was the late 90s and we didn’t have the internet at home.

Mostly I find DD’s menus to be a massively confusing mess now, and it’s done very little to update its graphics in a way that don’t look strange on a 22-year-old game.

Doomsday used to be a good engine but I think they’ve let it go to hell the last several updates. I was a faithful user of it back in the day whenever I wanted to play the original IWADs though. (I use GZDoom almost exclusively now.)

You are correct, Quake 64 was more of a faithful port :) Quake II 64, meanwhile... wasn’t! (and both had more Aubrey Hodges music!)

D64 is, aside from being functionally identical to classic Doom in terms of gameplay, has a completely different atmosphere, with all new art assets (including monsters and other sprites) and levels. Most of the levels are very dark, with colored lighting effects for atmosphere and a slightly tweaked engine that

It was your TV. My copy was a gift from my cousin who couldn’t play it because his TV was in the living room which is typically very bright and I played it in my bedroom with the lights off like the shut-in weirdo I am.
