I like "advocate" for people who express a reasonable concern.

If I might play devil's advocate… the term "social justice warrior" does seem to be thrown around a lot today on the internet, so chances are someone like Cargill possibly heard/read it and just assumed that's what you call people who get upset and/or rail against these sorts of situations.
