Now that Old Man Thor is a character that exists, and Hemsworth seems to love the role of Thor, I'm hoping that he'll be popping up in various capacities for a long time.

I think it's kind of a "subscription" logic. You don't do these big conclusion films to make commensurate amounts of money (although this will make lots of money), you do them to keep people invested in handing over their $20 every three months to see the next film.
