James had a pretty good solution to keep tires cool when driving up a volcano.

I always find it baffling when I realize people think CA is a sort of tropical place and fires are not normal. CA is about the driest place that has ground cover. Sure some places are just as dry (like NM, AZ, NV) but they dont have nearly the ground cover (read fuel) that CA has....

Saw some idiot tweeting that he’s from Tempe, AZ where is it hot and dry subject to more frequent lightning, and they don’t get these kind of fires where he lives so it must be due to bad land management. The internet wasted no time reminding him he was stupid, he lives in a desert, and you can’t get forest fires

Doesn’t “one long endless wail for attention” transcend political parties?

Fucking up the launch doesn’t mean it won’t sell - it’ll sell. It means that they either won’t have enough product on the lot or will have to spend a lot of money on warranty claims later. Either fuck up means less money.

GM didn't fail on the launch. They failed in the studio.

I predict that as the decade wears on, vehicles like this are only going to become more in-demand and expensive, among the people who really understand the virtues of owning one. It has technology where it should (EFI, electronic ignition) but nothing more, it’s compact and easy to live with, gas mileage shouldn’t be

Ford actually considered “drunk three-toed inbred blind buck toothed monkey from the local zoo” for the CEO position but he wanted too much money. Plus he was really drunk and started heaving his own feces at the hiring committee.

We had the Geo Tracker version of this, and after all these years I still have mixed thoughts. I loved the fact that if felt like a machine. Or rather, it felt mechanical, like an old car but with fairly modern conveniences. And in 4wd it had a completely different personality, like little Bruce Banner turning into an

In the late 80s one of my buddies went to a halloween party as one of these Suzuki’s and he just would randomly act out a crash and roll around the floor. It seemed hilarious at the time but i am sure that was the beer talking.

For example? What manual SUV with real 4wd from 04 can be had for $3500? I use the same criteria you do. “Can I buy a newer one for the same price”. I’m just drawing a blank on what 04 you could get instead of this. Subarus aren’t as off roady. Honda doesn’t have anything that could match this for example.

My personal criteria for NP under $4k is...

so we first have an article about letting women do their jobs, and treating them with respect, but then a few articles later is a woman uncomfortably posing like a trophy on the hood of a car, when there were a number of better, more professional pictures to choose from later on in the article?

I never NEVER complement a woman. It’s just not safe in this climate. Even if she’s doing a fantastic job, goes above and beyond her typically assigned tasks to get ahead, above her other peers to hopefully win a promotion. People think I’m cold and don’t recognize their accomplishments, but no, I’m being safe.

I agree with your analogy, but I don’t know that it applies to Danica Patrick. It would be like that college student who worked in the topless bar went back to the topless bar she used to dance at after she stopped dancing because she is now a journalist who reports on topless dancing.

What nepotism? John Andretti: 6 year career, dead. Jeff Andretti:3 year career, a nobody. Both John and Jeff QUALIFIED for all their races. So, they got a CHANCE to race because of connections (like 99% of people who get jobs, and don’t even try to say otherwise), but couldn’t cut it, blew their chance, and got kicked

Lets also add white women have benefited from affirmative action more than anyone else who it was aimed for. The constant victimhood while trying to be seductive even subtle is what annoys me. You can’t decide who you want attention from.

I blame our LACK of Disco and cocaine for the mess we’re in today.

According to some quick Googling, that $3800 Rabbit is about $18k today. That $12k Caddy is roughly $57k now. That seems, what, about right for what those two cars should cost?

No worries.  Expectations for journalists are pretty low these days.
