@Jessica: I didn't have cable, I didn't know half the pop culture stuff out there, but I also wasn't writing about it for a heavily-trafficked website. If you're going to broadcast your ideas to many people, ignorance is not so much of an option.

@kaiwhakamarie: Speaking as an editor, there's very little copy-checking on this site. It's just one of those things, but usually it's a matter of spelling errors—typically the writers know enough not to make a statement such as that.

"I don't know what the BET awards are! I still don't know! Nor do I really care!"

@Imjustnotthatintoyou: The general public often sucks—that's why the only commentariats I can be a part of is Jez and the NYTimes. I can read about 4 comments on Gawker before feeling ill.

@haus_frau: Good point! Maybe it's the disembodied thing that gets to me. I hear audio recordings of me singing and think, "that doesn't sound anything like me!" But the same performance on video, I'll be fine with.

@Allabouteve: This is based on a misperception though—I don't think anyone on this site has ever had any truck with the lack of punishment for Sheen, Polanski, et al. Brown is not being treated differently on here than we treat other violent offenders against women.
