There have been several TV specials around the Tybee nuke, the last one being in 08 or 09. The area the bomb supposedly went down in is now so full of refuse (not to mention background radiation) that is like looking at static on a black and white TV.

It was just another lousy birthday... and then someone thought I was actually 42 which made it even worse (since I didn't get the reference).

Too bad Carlos Owens didn't get the code for the robot working a couple of years ago. Ripping a former Wasilla mayor apart and using her for fuel would have made the world a much better place.

Obviously Matt never saw Food Inc, or maybe he did since I can't figure out if this is an advertorial or a shock-you-into-vegan-status piece.

@sharmanova: the same stroboscopic effect you get with car tires and other fast moving rotating objects on film. First noted in motion pictures with wagon wheels. In some old movies the wagon wheels appear to be frozen or even moving backward! The timing of the shutter relative to the wheels causes the

@flaspeneer: Boo! I was trying to perpetuate the dumb American stereotype.

Ok so in answer to my question on the other thread. Giz has a new third-shifter, welcome Gary (begin humming Donovan's Vincent Van Gogh tribute now).

Is Gary either:

I think the Sea Shepherds need a dozen of these instead of that Hughes 300. Can I order one that sniffs out whale meat and automatically drop bottles of butyric acid?

Now everyone go google the "flame sensor" (aka thermocouple) your heater or boiler take and order a couple off the net. This will save you several hundred dollars when you replace it yourself instead of calling the HVAC tech on Jan 14th at 3am to replace a $14 part.

@—Core—: World Community Grid from IBM has lots of different social grid computing projects to choose from.

@robelirobban: I guess you should have tweaked the settings. My I spent a night slowly tweaking the settings down on my MBP till I found the sweet spot between heat/rpm and results.

Go BOINC! I celebrated my 10th year with them this past January and have donated about 25K hrs to SETI and tens of thousands to World Community Grid (kudos IBM) to help find cures for diseases around the world.

As someone who has never latched on to Top Gear because of all the fanboys saying you must watch from; episode 1, the minute the torrent is online, both BBC and BBCA version so you can post about it, upside down while sipping Royal Purple... The show does look ok. Most shows first couple of episodes suck (go to Io9

I just found two "World of Tomorrow" Books in my basement. Io9 and Gizmodo need to do a feature on these. (I'll loan mine, my micro hot-wheels, and original lego crater plates but I will need them all back!)

I always wondered what Houdini came back as...

Gotta love that underside. One giant m-fing skidplate. Too bad Mikko didn't have Flubber-deploying fenders!

And that's why there is a Master Degree Program in Packaging Science!
