That would be a rather amusing loophole. I’m sure you still have to pay licensing fees but you’d have to do the state test(from one of the valid states) instead of the German test. I just like that if I were to move to germany I’d only have to take a driving course instead of the german written test (based on my state…

Also it’s not just that they’re valid, they’re reciprocal. So, for certain states you don’t need to take a written test to get a german license, just the driving test (which is pretty sweet considering).
