Most honeysuckles are non-native invasives, providing poor food for birds. Maybe consider getting some free horticultural advice from your state’s USDA extension service before writing articles like this.

Cyprus and Malta are the only two European countries with steering wheels on the right. Perhaps the British Isles was the place you were referring to?
This article is clearly about how to handle road rage in the UK, Australia, NZ, and (maybe) Japan (assuming they even have road rage there). What about those of us in North America?
A faster and easier way to turn on clipboard history in Windows 10 is to simply hit the Windows+V keys. If you haven’t turned clipboard history on yet, you’ll be prompted to do so. Much easier than delving deep into the settings menu.
I think he noticed this the most when he tried to flush all those torn up official records!
Poo-pourri is a total ripoff. Any light oil that forms a thin layer on the surface of the water in the bowl, helping prevent odorous gases from escaping from below, will work. Try using a short shot of room deodorizing spray inside the bowl before you go. Even cooking oil works. Perfume, essential oils, etc. do too.…
“Colonoscopies are performed while you’re sedated, of course, so you actually never get to truly appreciate the humiliation and discomfort of having a team of people stand around you while a flexible camera is, to use a medical term, poked up your rear.”
“Be aware of the wind speed. For example, if the air temperature is 30 °F (-1.1 °C) and the wind speed is 10 mph, then the actual temperature [sic] will be 21 °F (-6.1 °C).”
The Earth 911 website timed out on me, not that I expect there’s anywhere in AK where I can recycle EPS. As it is we can only recycle type 1 and 2 plastic containers *with necks* here (meaning no yogurt containers, etc.), and there’s no curbside pickup in my neighborhood. All plastics in the state are ultimately backha…
I prefer to apply graphite powder from my handy little plastic tube when I need to lubricate a lock or hinge. The dust and grime that sticks to soap will eventually gum up the works.
Plungers also work by suction, pulling the clog up and out of the toilet’s S bend. Pushing down on the clog may just drive it farther into the tight space.
If the walks are happening at around freezing — that’s when slush forms — you likely don’t need booties. Dogs’ feet have lots of circulation and stay pretty warm down to around 20 F for short haired dogs, much lower for double coated breeds. My double coated Golden retriever only needs booties if her paws start…
We use mushers secret here in AK, too, but not to keep their paws warm. Rather, it protects against paw cracking that happens during extreme cold — old, cold snow is like sandpaper. To keep paws warmer, use booties! (Which also work against abrasion.) Just don’t buy the lame bulky rubber ones that are made in China…
Agreed. Most puppies of thes breeds need to be delivered by C section, too. We have inbred certain breeds well beyond the limits of their health.
I guess it finally got cold in Lifehacker’s part of the Lower 48! I live in Alaska where we’ve had several prolonged periods of unusually cold weather this winter. (Winter started with two feet of snow on September 25th, and will last until late April.) I have two dogs: one an older, single coated, 50 lb pointer, and a…
Re the towels: while gross to see them being used to remove fragments of barker’s nests, or in lieu of a diaper, the towels are presumably going to get a sanitizing wash before being used by someone else. Just like they get washed after you’ve used them to wipe your mouth or crotch, two other sources of stuff I’d…
24 F would be viewed as balmy here in Alaska! Fewer than half our house’s 65 windows open anyway. Houses here are built to retain heat, not for ventilation. Our solution to the Covid threat is to not have anyone over — no big deal for this introvert. And our forced hot air furnace uses pleated 20 x 25 x 4 filters that…
Not all national forests require fees or permits. Here in Alaska, where the two largest national forests in the country are located (Tongass in the SE panhandle and Chugach in Southcentral), each family is allowed one tree from most areas: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/chugach/home/?cid=stelprd3822398
Cotoneaster, lilac, red currants, red and golden raspberries, gooseberries, spirea, Mugo pine, many species of willow, green alder, black cottonwood, balsam poplar, white and black spruce, mountain hemlock, trollius, delphinium, lily of the valley, many ferns, chocolate lilies, Amur cherry, paper and yellow birch,…
I live in Alaska where there are lots of moose. One of my dogs loves to roll in moose poop. She particularly likes spring poop, which is almost liquid and green (think cow patties — moose are eating fresh grass and willow shoots at that time of year), but will also roll in the hard, saw-dusty pellets moose generate in…
