Yes, agreed. The reality is that underneath all of this is capitalism. As long as people buy in to diet pills/waist trainers/weight loss programs, companies will be there to provide them. And then companies reinforce those unrealistic standards, so people buy more, etc.

Let’s apply that logic to another hypothetical family. Let’s say dad is a controlling asshole and is demanding that his ex-wife provide receipts for where the child support money goes. No bueno.

In other words, we need to change the definition of wellness to include wellness for one’s community and the environment at large. 

I mostly agree with you on this. What I would want WW to embrace is applying more quantitative definitions of wellness. Encourage people to get check-ups and educate them about what their results mean. Switch the focus from weight loss to weight loss as one piece of getting to a healthy body and mind.

That’s awesome, congrats! I’ve done WW a few times over the years and I definitely learned a lot, although I eventually turned to programs like Sparkpeople because I thought their database was better. 

I’m sure he’s equally passionate about mostly white male critics’ treatment of movies made by and for people of color.
