I love when there is Family Guy news on the Av Club. The threads are always such a wonderful mixture of rage, jealousy, bitterness and self-satisfaction.

Seth MacFarlane is super-talented; and his work is consistently brilliant.

His trenchant cultural criticism attacks not only things that are easy and fun to skewer, such as awful television shows and bad actors, but also society’s sacred cows, such as marriage and parenthood.

Wow. I’m not sure if I should applaud Netflix for actually going so far and promote their show, about a woman who is probably even more evil than her husband was, with popular feminist catchphrases...or if I should slap them for being tone deaf.

It’s a weird statement to make...coming from a middle aged white woman who the show has spent 4 or 5 seasons showing the moral and ethical depravity of. It inspires existential dread more than any glimmer of hope. 

Trump-loving Fox, apparently, didn’t have many notes for the episode, which is probably because it consists of jokes about Trump’s hair and not something that actually enrages him, like how he’s not nearly as rich or successful as he constantly says he is.

Wow, do you get muscle spasms for clutching your pearls that tight about an episode of “Family Guy”? Time to rub some ointment on your hand and move on.

Some people mistake not being an ideologue for not having a viewpoint or a moral center.

This could be credibly read as an examination of how South Park’s “you’re an idiot for caring” attitude has influenced some of the worst aspects of modern culture. South Park has been reckoning with its own legacy since Season 19, and this makes it clear that the trend of self-examination isn’t going to stop.

It takes A LOT of comedic skill to make jokes about school shootings. South Park pulled it off. They still got it 20+ years in.
