Out of at least 20 of this guy's female students over the years, only two (me and another woman0 finished. So good for me, but not good in general.

And the sad thing is that if Monica Burns had not smoothed it over, I bet there would have been people who would have called her uptight or a "feminazi' or whatever.

I did talk to the Ombudsperson and the Dean of Students. Not a good experience. They had the school's interests at heart and would have done zero if I had not threatened to help the reporter and take further action. They agreed to stop him from having female students for three years and to pay my moving expenses…
I'm afraid I'm very skeptical. According to the article, there have been rumors that he has behaved this way for years. So if he is "learning," he is doing so much too slowly.
My PhD advisor was (and still is) famous for sexually harassing female students. I'm not that old, so this didn't happen long ago.

I work as a professor and in industry, and I know of more students/graduates who have lost job offers because of online photos than I can remember. Among these are people whose exes or friends posted the photos. And people whose photos aren't even that bad (e.g., posing with a beer or people in racy Halloween…
You're missing the point. This is not about you and your attitudes. You may or may not feel it is normal to require workers to be available on Sundays and that it is shockingly awful to make kids work 16-hour days. In some countries, however, it is not normal or widely desired to work on Sundays, no matter what…
Corporations are trying to get it changed. Whether the people want it changed, I don't know. It is not up to us to decide for them.
Right. But so what? What business does a foreign company have trying to legally influence this debate?
I agree that it is a pain when everything is closed on Sunday. When I was a teen in a country that didn't allow Sunday trading, I was frustrated because I couldn't make money on Sunday.
This is not simply a religious law. Having a day off once a week is ingrained into the French culture. At any rate, if the French are happy with it, why would you think anyone should be telling them to change?
Are you French? I wonder what your attitude is about foreign companies trying to force their norms on the US?
You are making yourself look ridiculous, to be frank. How do you know what experience people here have with Pakistan/Pakistani women?
No problem. I certainly agree that hero-worshiping Anonymous is a bad idea. But I do think their work is very important. When we can't rely on regular authorities like the police, then we need organizations like Anonymous.
Amen to your comment.
My apologies. Thank you for providing a link.
lethekk, you are being more gracious than most would be in your response to Scobies. This girl is in the news because there was an assassination attempt. It is not racist or ignorant to assume that she faces a similar risk if she returns to Pakistan.
Right. This incident never would have seen the light of day if not for Anonymous. You have to wonder how many other incidents like it are being hushed up. I am now a huge Anonymous supporter.
