I’m just trying to figure out how RoR is a Metroidvania... it shows a misunderstanding of either RoR or the Metroidvania genre, overall. Either way, it’s not a good sign.

I hate to disagree but I wouldn’t call Risk of Rain a Metroidvania at all... it lacks most of the basic tenets of one, most importantly skills/abilities (or weapons) that must be discovered/unlocked to access new areas of the game.

I don’t see the sticks as the eyes but the battery charge things on each side... which totally would give you a Sloth-effect when they’re not equally charged.

When I lived in NY, my roommate helped a person move a mattress... once they got it downstairs they chatted for a while while my roommate leaned against the mattress. When he finally asked why they were getting rid of the mattress, the person said bedbugs.
