Athletes do have an obligation to at least try if they are part of a team. I’d agree if she had quit during her individual competition. Especially when her statement rings like pandering to a society that values mental health (which I do) knowing that anyone who challenges it sounds like an asshole.
Does she not need to complete in Grand Slams in order to keep her ranking? If so, does that “official” ranking mean anything beyond making her eligible to continue in that world?
