I think demographics plays a large part. And GMs stupid decisions play a large part. I’ve looked around, but they are all pretty clunky. And most phones are a touch too big (or at least a poor form-factor for forearms). We need a slightly curved (as Tamales suggested above), ergonomic-banded thing. Maybe with the mic on the underside for calls?

They just (18 months or so) put one of these near my house in Gainesville VA, and it is abysmal! It is totally bizarre and snarls traffic to a standstill nearly 24 hours a day.
