ooh, that sounds unpleasant. I’ve only recently started having condom-less sex, and it totally freaked me out at first! I am bad at planning around leaking, so I totally love your idea to use period panties :)

wearing these after getting it on is such a good idea!
I would read that book. Or I would try—I might have a rage stroke and be unable to finish though.
What a lovely tradition! My mother (who got married in the late 80s, perm and pearl headbanded veil and all) wore her mother’s satin dress from the 1930s. I would love to continue that tradition, but my mother was itty bitty and had the dress taken in so much I’m pretty sure the whole bodice covers my left boob.
*whispers back* I don’t think that’s how it’s supposed to fit...none of the 1890s gowns I’ve seen/worked with were off the shoulder—I bet if you pulled the sleeves up to where they should go it would look a lot better. But I do love the idea! What a cool tradition!
I used to teach in a jail, and was never once told to remove my bra for entry (it also never set the metal detector off). This was a state facility. I can’t imagine what people have to go through at your local jail!
Thanks for sharing! I would rather feel ghosts than be mugged, also.
I second a post just about the dancing! But if you want some other sources, Recreating the 19th c Ballroom has some good info. It’s written by one of the directors of The Commonwealth Vintage Dancers—she really knows her stuff!
You look great! I love following along with your week! As a historical dancer myself, I’d love to hear your impressions of the dancing you did throughout the week—what the classes were like, what the ball was like, what dances you did...living vicariously here ;)
please share more about these ghosts!
Starring for the moors story—that is so awesome and sounds so much like what my friends and I were doing at 17 (albeit in Boston with Alcott references). I’ve never been to the Bronte museum! On the list :)
You’ve inspired me to figure out .gifs. Hooray Austenland!
I work at a literary historic site and it’s funny how many of these items (with different books/authors obvs) we also sell. Actually all that kitsch is the majority of the museum’s income (even more than ticket sales), so good on you for buying!
Also I’m obscenely jealous. I desperately want to go to Bath.
This is an awesome tidbit! Also I love the Dr’s commentary.
This is great! It would be nice to have a comments field, though. I wanted to note that our HS sex ed course was divided over two years (freshman and junior). I moved sophomore year and therefore only took the first half.
I remember them! Those books were great as I was a little bit older than the AG target (like 5-6 grade). Also whooo more diverse characters!
I played with (or at least read the books/collected things) AG until I was 12-13, but I was a quieter kid? (I’m 25 now, fwiw this wasn’t that long ago). I saved up and bought me first/only AG doll (Kit) with allowance money when I was 10-11.
I also love that there are different types of books. I grew up on the AG historical ones, and the companion mysteries were so much fun when I was ready to branch out!
Modcloth does offer free return shipping! All you have to do is tell them which items you want to send back from your purchase (if you bought more than one thing) and they give you a label to print out and tape to the box. It’s pretty easy but does require printing.
Oh man, just jumping into say that I used to live in Scotland and still miss ceilidhs. That will be so much fun!
