VeggieTart: fear of a female planet

A lot more people than you probably realize at least occasionally wear sexy underwear under their work clothes, not with any sexy-times anticipated later but just to feel sexy during the day.

That is not the point. The point is...what the world saw was a white man rip-off a black woman’s clothing to expose a nipple. The white man’s career excelled and the black woman was blacklisted.

I was a child who didn’t watch football so my memories are fuzzy, but I don’t think anyone is mad at him about the initial incident. They are mad that afterwards Janet was subject to a full media reaming and consequences on her career, and he basically slunk into the background and let her bear the full brunt without

FYI this is not me giving up, just need to rant.

Perhaps our friend MD is on to something:

I wonder if this was why his acting career didn’t go anywhere after Bill & Ted. Back then, he was the one everyone thought was going to have the big career, not Keanu. He just kind of disappeared.

Yes.

Truth. I couldn’t outwardly acknowledge it until I was 48. Part of the culture of masculinity forces you to keep that shit buried deep because being a male victim “means you’re weak” ... even if the abuse happened during childhood.

“And it really wasn’t in my case, I would say, ‘til well into my 30s, that I was really able to do heavy lifting on this stuff.”

No way can they move these jobs overseas and keep free 2-day shipping.

A family member has friends who worked at an Amazon fulfillment center. They considered it a good job because of the benefits, but the huge catch was, they couldn’t get time off. No time off to care for sick kids, or other family responsibilities and needs. So they ended up quitting.

They can offer them jobs AND a living wage. The idea that they can’t is nonsense. Absolute nonsense.

Totally agree. This doesn’t absolve Amazon, Wal-Mart, et al of any responsibility with how they handle their workers, but there’s this weird notion that these are all new problems as a result of corporations instead of realizing that the romanticized mom & pop stores were doing the same thing, sometimes (often

You know, for all the people out there yelling ‘Bootstraps!’ and ‘Putting food on the table’ and ‘Unions are parasites’ and (even) ‘Jesus will provide!’:
Conditions like this were literally why Russians revolutionised to Communism, more than a century ago.

America: A Capitalist Hellscape

I have a theory that all those defending Amazon, and saying “It’s WORK, it’s supposed to be unpleasant, durrrr!” have just been so thoroughly gaslit by their employers, and by the capitalist system over the last two generations, that they literally don’t even remember what workers’ rights were like. It’s like the

It’s not like traditional retail stores treated their employees any better.

for the same reason local economies collapsed in coal country - because we’re automating a ton of jobs out of existence, and rather than taking that additional productivity and using it to give workers universal healthcare or a universal basic income, we’re letting jeff bezos buy small nations and have 15,000$ of

This can’t and shouldn’t go on. There is zero reason for it EXCEPT it’s the race to the bottom mentality of owners and consumers. The promise of instant shipping shouldn’t have been made, forcing a complete change throughout the way businesses get things to consumer. Thanks to this, the situation above exists. And

Amazon is a bittersweet thing for me. Damn if that Amazon Prime and Subscribe and Save is not convenient as hell, especially for a working mom like me. But I know that Amazon is the reason so many stores are closing down and people are losing their jobs, only to be replaced by jobs like the above. Why can’t we ever
