See, that’s an example of good writing. A show that turned you from hating a character to adoring him/her.

She really was.
I’m still mad about Patty Spivot.
Oh, man, Patty Spivot was great.
Josie bloody Lawrence.
Show isn’t over yet. Remember watching Singing in the Rain has triggered Reign (seriously...WTF? Like her programming responds to homophones? )
The good guys are so sanctimonious and stupid I cheered when the bad guys stole their ship. Even though the Legion are obviously going to come and bail out their idiotic asses.
It’s the same problem that all of the Arrowverse shows have, isn’t it?
This is the case. Let him write 12 issues in a row without one having to be a tie-in
They gave Thor a big push and many small to medium pushes. At the end of the day the limited run of Unworthy Thor was outselling Jane’s book. Her book as been okay. I like the character and her appearances in other books has been pretty good.
This is what I’m talking about. Ultimates should have been the flagship Avengers title post Secret Wars. It was absolutely the heir apparent to Hickman’s Avengers legacy. Imagine that team, plus Thor Foster, Cap Falcon, Miles, Kamala, and the Visions. Imagine Earth’s Mightiest Heroes coming together against the…
I can’t think of a single Al Ewing written book that hasn’t been dragged into some crossover it didn’t need to be a part of. If that’s not getting the shaft, I don’t know what is.
America was a horrible story. That’s why it didn’t sell, not because she wasn’t a white male, but because her story felt lazily written and boring.
They give him second string billing that constantly get derailed by company wide crossovers. A full third of Ultimates^2 dealt with Secret Empire. Ultimates 1 with Civil War 2. His New Avengers tie-ins actually kinda worked for Civil War 2, but still. Mighty Avengers had to deal with Inhumanity AND Original Sin.…
Ill give you Hulk. But if America is called a “gem”, Ill burn down the house.
The Ultimates was a great direction for BP & Captain Marvel, and including newer/lesser known characters like Blue Marvel, fmr Captain Marvel Monica Rambeau/Spectrum, and Ms America (pre-Rivera writing/ruining) was perfect. Even cameo’d the new Giantman, and of course Galactus the Lifebringer, it just overall felt…
“America” was not great story though. It was pure, uncut, unadorned, unapologetic SJW-BS. It was so bad my local comic shop only carried the first two issues and almost dropped “The Ultimates” (OP Avengers in space) because people were reflexively hating on that book because America Chavez was in it.
The part Charles left out, maybe because he’s more charitable than me, is that the inevitable failure of the books then gives more ammunition to assholes who justify the marginalization of LGBTQ and minority characters by saying things like “Marvel isn’t a charity.” And the wheel turns on...
If you’re going to write awkward dialogue as a way to enhance the storytelling, it should actually accomplish that. This is just clumsy and over-structured. And it seems to be a trend of his writing style across character emotions.
