“I find myself drooling over used cars at some of the shadiest dealers in town. I’ll drive by Stan’s Stolen Supercars, catch a glimpse of a $35,000 Maserati GranTurismo and wonder when I’ll get the chance to own this five-owner beautiful piece of Italian machinery that is currently home to a spider colony. I dream Read more

Did a car swap at the track with a friend a long time ago. His Cayman S and my ratshit NA Miata. Both of us came out of it grinning and laughing like fools. He had so much fun beating on my whip like it owed him money, I had a blast feeling actual power and grip for a change. Done car swaps with turbocharged Civics, Read more

This can be all kinds of fun. I swapped my e90 M3 with a friend’s mini cooper S. Both manuals and stupidly fun to drive. The little mini darted through traffic like a squirrel on cocaine. I had a blast and she enjoyed having all that extra power for a few days. As long as you have friends you trust, why not experience Read more

Nice to see a Turo renting article, as I was just planning on picking up a C7 for a day or two!

Oh you lucky bastard. Gas-guzzling aside, drive the snot out of this glorious ticking time-bomb until it (inevitably) goes tits-up.

Never. EVER. Buy a BMW with the N54 engine. Any ‘35i model older than about 2011 will leave you stuck with a host of very expensive problems. With the money you’d put into it, you might as well just buy a 2011 and get a newer car without the headache. My dad has had a 2011 535i with about 100,000 miles and hasn’t had Read more

FJ cruisers are renowned for their unicorn drivetrain. As far as I know, they were the only vehicle recently made that had an available 6 speed manual, full-time 4wd, and mechanical torsen diffs front, rear, and center. Beastly. The manual ones will probably hold their value for the next decade at least.

About 2 months ago I talked my wife into considering an FJ when it’s time for us to get something else. They have always been fascinating (three windshield wipers like a Morgan? Sure!) to me and seem to hold their own fairly well. The only other vehicle that comes close to holding their value like the FJ is the Jeep Read more

Personally I like the Tonka truck looks, and I became a fan because Toyota had a big factory Baja program with the FJ when I was just starting in desert racing

Eh I imagine they are used about as much as Wranglers off road. And besides in states like Ohio having a good 4x4 is always nice for winter.

This is me with a DeLorean. Aside from Back to the Future and those doors, it’s slow, unreliable, expensive and janky in general. But I respect it immensely because it’s the object of so many people’s fascinations.

Honestly, I know Uber and Lyft are ubiquitous, but I’d love to see them replaced with anyone after how they behaved in their little temper-tantrum here. So, good luck Fasten and Fare, I guess.

I’m completely the same way. I do stuff on my simple cars myself but I take my S600 to the dealer because I know they are likely to do it right the first time, money be damned. I know that only one employee can work on my car and they won’t let anyone else turn a wrench on it. They treat me like any other customer and Read more

I agree 100%. I don’t have the time, skill, tools, space to work on my car and will take it to a dealer I trust before I start to fuck around with an “indie” shop even after my warranty expires.

I drove one of these at the porsche experience center, after I drove a 911, and I was really impressed with how well it handled and how fast it was, especially on some of the obstacles. I didn’t have high expectations getting into it from a 911 but it almost is just a taller 911.
