I didn’t see Crimson Peak until last year, so (post-reviews) I went in expecting a Gothic Romance with an unsurprising plot - and I loved it. With those altered expectations, it ended up being a movie about inevitability rather than revelations. The tension and drama came from watching the characters start to realize

I also loved how personal and contained so much of 12's run was, particularly his last season.* The Ice Fair episode in particular was a great return to form after so long away. It was basically just: “lets have fun exploring the past, and do what we can to help the people in front of us.

I’d second the reply below that emphasized the truly amazing choreography. It’s a beautiful movie, though there are aspects that haven’t aged well. Your best bet might be to just watch clips of all the most famous scenes.

Another great show with local (if stylized) flavor was Justified.

While I agree with you (and I’m not saying you’d do this), I think it’s funny how many people complain that everything takes place in NYC, but then ask ‘why did they set this movie in London/Chicago etc., that’s such a weird choice.’ Apparently, for most Americans the only valid choices are NYC, LA, or [where that

Huh, I feel like they could have done less with House’s issues. The character went on an addictive downward spiral for a few seasons, which made logical sense as a character arc, but frankly I wasn’t watching the show for “legitimately cruel addict treats his friend horribly,” I was watching it for “cranky (he’s an add

Are you arguing that experience shows us Monarchies are maintained even if they aren’t cost effective, or We don’t keep monarchies even if they are cost effective?  Either way, my whole point was “I’d be curious to see the numbers,’ so if you have some, I’d be interested.  Otherwise, we’re just exchanging

Um... My point was “they probably wouldn’t keep the existing system if it was costing too much money,” not “the existing system is the only way to make money.” Duh, it’s possible to attract tourists without a monarchy. That’s not even remotely the question at issue.

Now that my initial disappointment/disgust has faded, I’ve decided I’m perfectly okay with “Star Wars is officially a TV property now” being Rise of Skywalker’s ultimate result.

I thought Dark Fate was actually quite fun. It felt personal again, the fight scenes were good, and the new terminator actually had a bit of a TSCC feel in my opinion.

I was the original HP generation, but even for us, that last book release was surreal. My friend and I went to a release party, and it was so cool seeing a couple hundred college students let go of their angsty ‘I’m an adult now’ shells and just being excited 12 year olds again, and knowing that virtually everyone we

The context that’s easy to forget is that, with both the books and the movies, you have kids who literally grew up with these characters, since for a while they were coming out one a year. I was the same age as Harry for the first few books, and that sense of ownership kept me invested (despite the frustration) way

Agreed on Discworld being too much for the original Harry Potter demographic - namely, 10-12 y.o. non-bookworms. Discworld is wonderful and clever, but it scares off readers who aren’t ready for it. Harry Potter was easy and fun and welcoming. Basically, it was a perfect primer for future Discworlders.

I’d be curious to know the numbers on the royal boost to the tourism industry, whether it breaks even or not.  All nostalgic loyalty aside, I find it hard to imagine that so many people would support keeping the monarchy if it was truly costing a significant chunk of money...

That feeling - that the Doctor had been lessened somehow*- is the reason I’m about a season and a half behind. I think the Doctor said some version of “I don’t know what to do” ten times as often in 13's first three episodes as in the rest of nuWho combined.

The sequel was legitimately good and added a lot of complexity, and was also my first exposure to James McAvoy. I remember thinking ‘oh, I bet he makes it beyond sci-fi miniseries territory, he’s single-handedly raised the quality of this thing to ‘I wouldn’t even have felt bad paying to see this in theaters’ level.’

Speaking of Game of Thrones actors, the 2015 version also added a nice little character arc for Richard Madden’s Prince Kit. He felt significantly more like a real person than most Disney princes.

Huh, I 100% didn’t get any romantic undertones between the two of them. There was an absolute lack of physical or emotional awkwardness, that to me read more like siblings. Which is all to say, this is one of those cases where people really can read it either way.

Saw it last night - the camera was definitely too jumpy in the scaffolding fight, but the bus fight near the start of the movie was super fun, with good choreography and clean cinematography. The big final show-down was more of a big battle scene than a 1-1 fight.

...the irony being, you’ll have a hard time finding any of these replies to your comment about not being able to find replies.
