I’ve been trying to promote the idea of “extracted carbon” as being the real enemy. IOW, carbon that’s dug/drilled out of the ground because we have too much in the atmosphere already and that just adds more.

I really admire what you’re trying to do here. I think the notion of retro-modding old beasts like this with EV drivetrains has a lot of potential.
Wow, that price is out to lunch, I don’t care HOW clean this is.
Your naivety is on the business side, not the worker side. There’s no way on earth these would be viable businesses if they had to rely solely on casual drivers.
I have no doubt the original Bolt is a decent car, but GM stylists couldn’t possibly have made it look less appealing.
GM has a long history of screwing up the launch version of a car, only to make a much improved follow up but by that time the brand equity has been compromised to the point where nobody cares anymore. In this space, both the Volt and the Cadillac ELR were WAY better in their second versions, but sales had fallen below…
There’s no way Lyft/Uber could sustain a business solely on drivers like your buddy. And if the bulk of their drivers only worked on that kind of casual basis they’d have no way to match demand with supply. This is a hopelessly naive take.
I feel like I’m missing something. Can this be charged off a plug as well or does it rely solely on the ICE for charging?
Perfect! 😁
I’d sooner drive an A-bomb.
My definition of “defensive driving” is simply “assume that everyone else on the road around you is stupid and could do the dumbest thing possible at any given moment.”
It’s unwise to think in terms of “defeat”. They’re recognizing that the market is changing and they’re adjusting to these changing market conditions. Ascribing value judgements is part of what polarizes people on issues like this.
“Peak Oil”, as in “constrained by potential supply”, is a fallacy. We’re very good at finding new ways of getting it out of the ground. In fact, that’s the problem.
I think a pristine low-mileage gen 1 GTI would be worth what they’re asking for this one. But given the paint, the mileage, and the mods that mean this one is no longer “original”, it’s a big fat “no” from me.
Yeah... for a perfectly clean, low-mileage GTI, maybe, but this is far from that.
The main reason I even clicked into this list was to see if The Big Sick was going to be on it. It’s absolutely not a typical rom-com and I thought it was gratifyingly “real”. Also, funny and genuinely sweet.
True as that is, $40k doesn’t make sense given the mileage and clean-but-not-perfect condition.
Ignoring the charges implies tolerance. An auto company can’t afford to do that.
...and in pristine condition it MIGHT be worth it. This one is high-mileage, clean-but-not-perfect, and modded. Seller is kind of delusional.
Or the Wish.com version lol
