I can confirm as the prior owner of a couple of 3rd gen Maximas (92 and 93 model years) they both had this type of setup on the hood struts that required drilling out the mounts to install aftermarket replacements.

I used to work at a dealership and if there was an engine problem with a Viper, they just replaced the engine. At the time, no one was authorized to do heavy engine work on one. Perhaps things have changed.

The one in my '15 Sentra does that too at WOT. Only when driving normally does it pretend it's a traditional automatic transmission. 

Yeah, I feel like a lot of people commenting know absolutely nothing about the SRT-4, which had absolutely zero Neon badges because even Dodge didn't call it a Neon. Your comparison to the Imprezza vs. STI is spot on. 

I suppose that’s mainly accurate, but the SRT-4s insurance and maintenance costs would be much cheaper. Obviously total cost of ownership would take a long time to crossover at the $100k starting price, but if you could get one at a more reasonable price you'd save a ton of money in thelong run.
