This is hilarious. Nobody at Disney went, “Hey maybe the reason the photorealistic Lion King seemed like a good idea* is because lions are beautiful to look at” and now they’re in the position of having to reckon with the fact that most things under the sea look disgusting and weird.

Given that Iger stated that all these live-action remakes were part of their “brand deposit” strategy, I think we can safely say that no artistic vision was harmed, or even involved, in the making of this film.

My problem with these remakes isn’t that they’re “ruining my childhood”. It’s just that every single one of them seems utterly unnecessary from a creative standpoint. I know every big movie exists to make money. But please, at least try to give me the illusion that an artistic vision was involved.
