I can’t be the only Babylon 5 fan here, can I? One of the main characters, the Chief of Security, Michael Garibaldi, made it for his birthday after the doctor had put him and the other senior staff on diets (sorry, “food plans.”). Hilarity ensues when the doctor, Stephen Franklin, catches Garibaldi sneaking the

it really isn’t that hard to sort out.

Little off topic, but really hate it when people police gender for no reason.

As a kid of the 80s (and a male one), I can assure you that the self-serving rationalization of “I didn’t mean it in a homophobic way” didn’t get created until well over a decade later.

Regardless of intent, just use a different word.  It’s not that difficult.

Unpopular opinion alert:

Why is Emezi’s publisher submitting their work for a women’s prize when they don’t identify as a woman?

solidarity!

For me? Yes, OMG yes. Trazadone does a number on my dreams. Occasionally they are sublime, but mostly cause anxious dreams where I am lost and am desperately trying to find a way out (to go to the bathroom, to find the elevator that goes to the right floor, to find the right room,).

I have so much sympathy for this.  It sucks.  I mean, on the one hand, the meds kicking in is the only thing that actually ever worked for me. Though really, that’s kinda been my issue with every therapist I’ve dealt with. I don’t need to be told that my emotions are valid, I need ways to have them not actively get in

I learned from my mom who teaches to roll up on shitty kids and scare the hell out of them by talking calmly and give them death stare. It works so much better than giving them forewarning that you’re about to reprimand them.

Events, administration, hospitality, so many industries that women outnumbered men in were usually low paying and now totally decimated.

We live in a world where parents get mad if you yell at their kid but call the cops if they see a kid without an adult hovering over them.

The whole “don’t parent someone else’s children” thing is odd to me. My parents were great but I’m also glad for the times others stepped in and “parented” me. There were some social norms I was not taught and getting kindly schooled saved me from embarrassment. As a former kid, I don’t think a parent should be

America: This country was built on family values!

The best your therapist could do was recommend self-care?

I’m all for projects like OpenAI Jukebox that are still “learning”, but AI shouldn’t be learning on the job. I think there’s a bit of validity to the criticism that students are “training” the AI for free, unwilling and unpaid participants in creating a better system for the proctoring company.

Can you imagine is you pushed the start button one day before you left and they open the dishwasher with all clean dishes in it...

I’m pretty sure they craft them this way just to annoy us enough to click and comment. When Jezebel informed me “We Have to Talk About Prince Harry’s Girlfriend”* I clicked just to say “no, we fucking don’t.”

I hate headlines like this. I hate stories like this.
